More than 313,000 students across 545 schools log into Schoology each day through Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ student portal. The learning platform handles everything from kindergarten assignments to high school AP coursework, making it the backbone of Florida’s largest school district.

M-DCPS Runs on PowerSchool’s Learning Platform
Miami-Dade adopted Schoology as its primary learning management system, accessible through dadeschools.net. PowerSchool acquired the platform in November 2019 and designed it specifically for K-12 education. The district uses it for course management, assignment submission, grade tracking, and teacher communication across all grade levels.
Students access the system through mdcpsportal.dadeschools.net, where they find Schoology alongside other district tools including the electronic gradebook, Microsoft Teams, and Office 365. The platform replaced older, fragmented systems with a single location for coursework.
Getting Into Schoology DadeSchools
Students begin at the main district website and click Portal in the navigation menu. The login screen requires their student ID number as the username. The default password follows a specific format: two digits for birth month, four digits for birth year, then “PW” (April 27, 2007 becomes 042007PW).
Once inside the portal, students click the Schoology tile marked with a blue “S” logo. The system then requires Microsoft authentication. Students enter their district email (StudentID@students.dadeschools.net) and use the same password from the portal login.
This two-step process connects M-DCPS accounts with Microsoft 365, allowing students to work with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneDrive directly through course assignments.
Inside the Digital Classroom
The Course Dashboard shows all enrolled classes. Each course displays as a tile with sections for Materials, Updates, Grades, and Members. Teachers post daily assignments, upload presentations, share web links, and organize resources within their course pages.
Students can:
- View assignment due dates and requirements
- Submit completed work
- Check grades and feedback
- Join discussion threads
- Access teacher comments
Navigation tabs at the top include Courses, Groups, Resources, and Grade Report. The “DADESCHOOLS” button in the upper left corner returns students to the main dashboard from any course page.
Digital Textbooks and Learning Tools
Miami-Dade integrates multiple educational platforms through Schoology. Students access these tools without separate logins:
Big IDEAS MATH Math courses include the textbook in the left sidebar. Students click “BIG IDEAS MATH,” select “District Username/Password,” and reach the publisher’s dashboard with assignments and practice tools.
McGraw Hill Wonders Reading courses link to grade-level textbooks. Students find “McGraw Hill K-12 SSO” in the materials list, launch the app, and select their Wonders book.
iReady This assessment and instruction tool appears in math and reading courses. Students click the iReady icon, launch the app, authenticate with district credentials, and choose between reading and math. The Family Center provides additional resources for home practice.
Parents Get Separate Access
Miami-Dade launched Schoology for Parents in November 2023. Guardians create their own accounts rather than using student login information. This separation keeps student work secure while giving parents full visibility.
Schools provide access codes for parent registration. Guardians visit dadeschools.net, click the Schoology for Parents banner, and complete registration with their email and the access code. Parent accounts show:
- All course assignments and due dates
- Submission status for completed work
- Teacher feedback and comments
- Current grades by course
- The same materials teachers share with students
The district runs free training webinars in English, Haitian Creole, and Spanish. Sessions occur at 9 AM and 6 PM through Parent Academy Miami, helping families learn the system’s monitoring tools.
Parents who share devices with students should use different web browsers. Student accounts connect through Microsoft 365, which caches login information. Using separate browsers prevents accidental access to the wrong account.
Mobile App and Technical Support
The Dadeschools Mobile app mirrors portal functions on smartphones. Available on Google Play and the App Store, it syncs grades, attendance records, and Schoology access. Students and parents log in with their portal credentials. Push notifications alert users to grade updates and approaching deadlines.
Technical problems go to M-DCPS IT support at (305) 995-3000. The department handles password resets, account access issues, and login troubleshooting. Individual schools also assist with access codes and initial setup.
The district maintains a “Forgot Password” link on the login page. Password reset instructions go to the registered email address. If problems continue after 15 minutes, contact your school’s IT department or call district support.
Electronic Gradebook vs. Schoology
The student portal includes both an Electronic Gradebook tile and Schoology. These serve different purposes. The gradebook displays final grades, report card information, and overall academic standing. Schoology shows assignment-level details, individual scores, rubrics, and ongoing work.
Parents checking if their student passed a class use the gradebook. For details on specific assignments, missing work, or teacher feedback, Schoology provides the information.
District Enrollment and Digital Access
Miami-Dade’s student population dropped to approximately 313,000 for the 2025-26 school year, down from 326,280 the previous year. Superintendent Jose Dotres attributes the decline to reduced immigration and high housing costs rather than families leaving for charter or private schools.
The district emphasized continued digital learning during weather events and disruptions. Schoology keeps coursework moving when students cannot attend in person, with access to assignments and resources including iReady, iXL, and Waterford.
Miami-Dade’s Digital Infrastructure
The Schoology platform represents M-DCPS’s investment in technology that works both in classrooms and at home. With Microsoft 365 integration, students complete projects using professional tools and submit work without switching platforms. Teachers manage classes, track progress, and communicate with families through one system.
The district continues expanding parent training programs and technical support. As Miami-Dade remains Florida’s largest school system, Schoology dadeschools access has become the standard way students engage with coursework, whether they attend one of the district’s traditional schools, magnet programs, or specialized academies across Miami-Dade County.
